The A5 Spry Mini is the full-size Spry's design behind a 1.85-inch blade. It is built the same way and works the same way. It is simply small enough for a keychain, a coin pocket, a suit, and the states that draw the line at 2 inches. If you carry a knife where a 3.5-inch OTF is too much, this is the one.
Materials
The blade is S35VN, a stainless powder steel with the edge retention, toughness and rust resistance we want in an OTF, under a titanium coating. At 1.85 inches it is a detail-work blade: tape, tags, thread, cord, the hundred small cuts of a day. That length also keeps it under California's 2-inch limit for automatics. A few cities, San Francisco among them, add rules of their own, so check the city as well as the state before you carry.
The handle is 6061-T6 aluminum, 3.20 inches long, contoured and textured so a small knife still gives a sure grip, in black or OD green.
Three Blade Styles
Drop point. The balanced all-rounder, good for slicing and for piercing, with a tip strong enough for daily use. The right first choice.
Tanto. A reinforced tip for punching through tough material. The one for hard-use work.
Double edge. A symmetrical point that pierces cleanly. Check your state before choosing it, since a few states that allow automatics restrict double-edged blades.
The Slider and the Glass Breaker
The Mini is a double-action OTF: push the slider forward and the blade fires and locks, pull it back and the blade retracts, one thumb for both. The tail carries a tungsten glass breaker, a small thing that matters in a car on a bad day.
Weight and Carry
At 2.15 ounces the Mini is the lightest knife we make, and the pocket clip carries on either side. It disappears in a pocket, which is the point: a knife that is always there, that opens with one hand, and that does not announce itself. For a close comparison with its nearest relative, see our Spry Mini vs Badger guide, and for where small automatics are legal, the California-legal OTF guide.

People Are Asking
What are the A5 Spry Mini's specifications?
A 1.85-inch titanium-coated S35VN blade, a 3.20-inch 6061-T6 aluminum handle, 2.15 ounces, a tungsten glass breaker, and a double-action slider. Blade styles are drop point, tanto and double edge. Handle colors are black and OD green.
Is the A5 Spry Mini legal in California?
California allows automatic knives with blades under 2 inches, and the Mini's 1.85-inch blade is under that line. Some cities, San Francisco among them, add local rules, so check the city as well as the state. Our California page has the detail.
Spry Mini or A2 Badger?
Same 1.85-inch blade length and similar weight. The Mini runs S35VN in an aluminum handle with a glass breaker. The Badger runs D2 in a carbon fiber and aluminum handle. Our head-to-head guide walks through the differences.
